Day 120: "Pssst…I Love You!"

If you read yesterday’s post, you know that I had a hard working momma week.  Friday’s at our school, though, are for meetings and for academic intervention so it’s low key and I don’t have to stand up in front of hormonal teenagers trying to help them figure out the difference between summarizing a short story and analyzing a short story.  Once the meetings are done and the students leave, I have some down time.

I opened up this book that I got from the public library to start reading the short story The Handsomest Drowned Man to prep for class next week.  As I was leafing through the pages to find the story, I came across a small piece of paper, and on it was scribbled, “Pssst…I Love You!” (I wish I snapped a picture of the note for this post, but I’m there’s just no time right now.)  And well you know what I did.  I smiled!  Just the day before a teacher saw me briefly smile and made sure to let me know that it was nice to see me smile again.  (What she didn’t know was that it was more of a sarcastic smile, but a smile nonetheless.)

It makes me wonder about the person who the note was written for.  It makes me wonder about the person who wrote it.

At first I wanted to take it out of the book and hold on to it b/c of the small amount of joy it brought me.  But then I thought, what if that note was placed there in the hopes of bringing smiles to whomever found it…w/o any intention of making sure it found it’s way to a specific someone.  Perhaps it was just there to help as many people as possible.

It made me think of how much those around me love and care about me.  It made me think that I bet my husband would whisper those words to me during the work day if he could.  It made me think that with every smile Abby shoots my way, she is probably thinking those thoughts for me.

And you know, I could totally be reading way too much into it.  It could simply be someone’s bookmark that they forget to remove before returning the book to the public library and is forever tearing apart their room looking for the last note the love of their life wrote them.  Who knows.  (And that could be still reading too much into it.)

Small things, like finding a note like this, help to bring clarity my way.  Clarity to help erase my gut negative reactions, which cause me to have too many no good very bad days.  Not saying that I’m perfect and will reaction to situations perfectly all the time, but enough clarity to try to think through them a little more.

So I’ll remember that little piece of paper and leave it in the book, in the hopes it can bring a smile to someone else’s face one day.

How beautiful! Every book has a story doesn’t it? I always wonder where books have been (library books and used books). But I am crazy like that.

Neat blog! Happy SITS Potluck Friday.

How sweet! I love it when I am reading a book and some long lost piece of paper falls out – a nots or a receipt. Makes my day!

    Happy SITS Saturday!

What a great idea, leaving behind a little random note in a library book. I may just have to start visiting libraries, again…

    Happy (belated) Friday potluck!

Hey Girl! Just stopping in from SITS to say hi, and suggest to you that maybe it was God’s way of reminding you that HE loves you and notices your need for uplifting and encouragement. I’ve found that He does this a lot, especially when I’m down or discouraged. I’ll be driving along and see a sign with an encouraging word, or something else like a song on the radio will “speak” to me. He is such a good and Loving God!

    God Bless!

The note was definitely there to brighten your day. No doubt about it! You’ve inspired me to stick a little note in my library book before I return it…

Great post. Really introspective. Gave me lots to think about. I’d like to leave a note like that for someone to find. The idea of making someone else smile… makes me smile too!

I love this story. It’s the small things in life that can really bring a smile to one’s face. It also immediately makes me think of what I would value in a partner one day. Thank you for sharing.

The little love note sends an unfathomable message- that of love- from a stranger to probably a love of his life. Yet it brought you a smile. Nice story. Happy SITS Featured Friday to you.

I loved this story and i do things like this often! Ever since i was small, my heart went out to the less-privileged in the society. When i was a child,I used to drop-off biscuits secretly at the door of a poor cobbler who had his shop near my house.I loved his kids and wanted to play with them to show them i loved them no matter what..but they felt distant because of the demarcation that still sadly, sadly exists in many cultural societies.

Congrats on being the featured blogger and yes little thoughtful deeds can go a 1000 miles!

This is fantastic. I love finding notes in library books (as long as they don’t have suspicious stains on them), and I am so glad this made you smile. The really awesome part? It’s making thousands of other people smile, too, now that you have written about it. I bet the author of the note had no idea that it would make so many people happy one day.

    Awesome.
