Day 148: Some Serious Fun
Dude. Abby is going to be 7 months old in a week. If you can tell me where lost and found is so I can find “time,” please let me know. I don’t know where mine has gone.
Seriously, though, in realizing she is growing, I realized it’s time to step up all the solids stuff. Still working on having time to do my research (where are you time?) and need to figure out what types of foods to start experimenting with and making sure Abby is getting the right amounts of food groups and such, but I did have like 5 minutes to skim through a book. AND…I was reading that perhaps she can start experimenting with mushed up food on the tray as well as holding a spoon.
The book did say something about bananas being a good mushed up food, but I did eat our last banana as a morning snack at work, so I decided to go the spoon route. Abby loves her spoon! She’s usually not fussy at all when I take something away from her if we have to go change a diaper or something. But when I took the spoon away to dip it into her food or to try to stop her from flinging green beans all over, she got fussy pants. I kinda smiled and thought it was cute. So spoon was handed back and she continued with her fun.
I was able to hold her hand and help her maneuver the spoon into the green beans, though, and afterward she totally put it in her mouth and sucked it dry. I’m thinking it was mostly b/c those teething gums felt some relief nom nom noming on the plastic spoon and not that she realized she was feeding herself…more like an extra surprise after that relief for her.
But really, she ate a whole bunch in that sitting, which was great b/c Abby is a snacker. She usually doesn’t eat a whole lot. I mean she was just shy of 14 lbs at her 6 month check up. She’s just not a big eater. But man, she was way into her food with having the spoon to amuse her. It could have just been coincidence, though. I mean, she had some serious fun and b/c of that, I didn’t mind that I ended up with green beans all over me and had to clean the high chair more than usual. I just love watching her discover new things. But we will probably go sans clothes for her b/c of said flinging of spoon.
But really, I need some help mommas. What are your 7 month olds doing as far as eating? Do you have some good sites you would recommend? My goal this long weekend is to do my research. Oh, and buy that bathing suit I was talking about.

Teva’s going on 8 months, but she started eating “puffs” 2 weeks ago. They are a great finger food and dissolve pretty quickly in the mouth while the kiddos are still getting used to mashing with their gums. She adores them, and I think she feels like a big girl!
I know Abby hearts avocado, so I would try giving her little cut up bits of avocado.
I’ve got a great cook book that has told me some things to try….smashed or cut up blueberries. Watermelon….basically any rip soft fruit cut up (peaches, plums)…it helps if you roll the fruit pieces in cheerio dust so they are easier for Abby to grip.
Also, from onestepahead.com I bought Teva a ‘mesh feeder bag’ that has been great in giving Teva new fruits without the choking risk, as well as easing her teething pain. I’ve put watermelon, pineapple, orange, etc in there and she loves it! You can also freeze fruits and put them in there. I highly recommend.
Hope this helps!!!
Check out wholesomebabyfood.com they have great ideas and recipes. They also separate by age. Try avocado and cream cheese mixed together. Hudson freaking loves avocado to this day. I just cut half into slices and he takes care of the rest. Also- with Hudson we gave him a spoon and then fed him with another spoon. After a while he just starting using his spoon & it was AWESOME.
God she’s cute.
J has only just started with the finger foods and we do the Gerber puffs and lil’ crunchies. (and I kinda love them, too! ha!)
