Day 203: It’s a Small World After All

Do any of you ever blog and wonder if one day when you are walking in the grocery store Target, someone will come up to you and say, “Oh my goodness…It’s Metta and Abigail!”  (Well of course insert your names.)  I think about this sometimes.  Not a lot, but sometimes it crosses my mind.  I wonder if my blog readers and my real life will ever cross paths.

So remember when I posted on Wednesday about how I think I’m trying too hard.  How I want to meet new mommas in my area, but I’m so afraid to put myself out there.  Well a couple hours after it posted, I got an email titled “Story Time Momma.”

At first I thought maybe one of you wanted to email me comments instead of posting them on the blog, but as soon as I started reading, I knew it was her.  It was Story Time Momma!  Here is what she had to say….and yes I totally got her permission to post some of her email…

Hi Metta ( insert in real life name b/c I give people I meet in real life my actual name ),

I really hope this doesn’t come across as creepy, but I’m the Mom from story time. :)

I promise, I’m not a stalker.  I’ve read Blair off and on since pregnancy.  We just moved here from Raleigh a few months ago.  I always enjoyed her blog since she is from that area.

ANYWAY, I unexpectedly linked to your blog last McFatty Monday. It was a totally weird experience, as you can imagine, since Nathan and I had just met you a couple days before that.  I thought “oh my gosh, I know this lady!!! This is like the craziest thing EVER!!!”

ZOMG!

Can you imagine if you were her, you meet me in real life and three days later you realize you are reading my blog?  I totally would think that this was the craziest thing EVER too!!!

She then went on to introduce herself,  give me a bunch of other personal stuff about who she and her family are, you know b/c in my post I did say I was scared of putting myself out there and then finding out she was all weird and stuff.

I had the biggest grin on my face when reading her email.   I swear.

She also let me know that she was soon to be 30…on Sunday nonetheless.  Sweet…that is at least one thing we have in common…besides having adorable babies that is.

She also went on to write…

So, I promise, I don’t have strange relics in my home.  hahaha.  What I really wanted to ask the other day at the story time was if you wanted to join us on the swings at the park afterwards, or grab lunch or a cup of coffee.  But, like you, I thought that might sounds weird since we didn’t know each other.

And the reason she wanted to reach out to me too is b/c since moving here a few months ago, she hasn’t started working…just focusing on the momma thing right now…so it’s been hard for her to make friends since the only other person she knows his her landlord (<—her words, not mine).

Now this I can relate to.  I mean I do work, but it’s at a small school where I don’t really have much in common with the few women who work there, and well, I live an hour South of the friends I made since moving out West.

This all got me thinking…you know the way the stars were aligned and “Story Time Momma” actually emailing me and sharing with me her thoughts on meeting other mommas…you know all those comments you guys left about how so many others feel this way and all those tips about taking the leap and putting myself out there…well I guess I sort of did in the long run, with this post at least.

It made me feel really good to know that I’m not alone in this meeting new momma’s adventure.  We are all nervous.  We all have trepidations.   We all I think most of us wonder if we are trying too hard and are afraid to bite the bullet and go for it.

I’m so freaking glad I wrote that post.  It had been swimming around in my brain for a bit and it totally came to fruition at the right time…you know where “Story Time Momma” linked up to my blog a few days after meeting me in person.

So now, we are totally going to meet up at story time again (not today, but next Friday as I do have family in town) and we’re totally going to have that cup of coffee afterwards and take the babes to the park outside the library.

ZOMG!

I just heart it when amazing things like this happen.  Serendipity.

So yeah, if you happen to read this blog and see me in real life, if you’re not a crazy, totally come up and say hi, and I will promise to do the same.  And I’m totally going to relax a bit more in these social momma settings.  Perhaps if I do this, I will start to make more momma friends.

Post Script:  I forgot to say she totally has a sense of humor.  I mean she did close her first email to me with this:

By the way, I’ve also considered signing up for swim lessons, with the same goals in mind – so, I take it, it doesn’t produce instant mommy friends.  Darn it!

I heart humor and sarcasm, so I’m thinking we will get along!

Dude! I just found you again! I was freaking out for a second….where’s Metta! (Duh, that’s right she must be at her new digs!). Beautiful, by the way! I love your new home!

Ok, now about this post….I feel the same way. I always feel awkward when I meet another Mom, and want to totally ask her for a play date or something. I’ve been thinking of having some thumb cards printed that I can just hand out with mine and Teva’s name on them with my cell number and e-mail….kinda no pressure, like, here’s my info please contact me if you want to get together!
