Day 211: The one where she doesn’t insist on eating books
Despite the fact that I’m an English teacher, I think most parents want to expose their kids to books. (I wish I could say all, but being a teacher I can tell that some kids are just never read to as children, which is why I sometimes read to my students.) Of course we have a wide variety sitting on Abigail’s book shelf. For the longest time, though, she would insist on swiping the book out of my hands to nom on the pages. A couple of days ago, I thought I’d give it a shot since it had been a while since I read to her…I have had lots of trepidations b/c I want to preserve her books, and not have them torn to shreds.
Finally! Abigail sat in my lap as I read to her and pointed at pictures. I got the most reaction out of the picture of a dog. Methinks she knows this one since we have she has her own doggie. One thing I noticed, though, was that she was more willing to sit and look and listen with books that were mostly pictures. Books with lots of words where I spent a long time on pages reading them to her, led her back to her nomming on books way. Lucky for us, we have several of these books. I wanted to share with you, one of my favorites b/c it’s just so unique. I got it Abigail got it as a gift and I’m so glad.
It is ABC’s by Charley Harper
What I really like is how it is stylistically put together. (I’ve noticed that I have a style preference these days. If you knew me in real life for years and years, you would know that I’ve never really been into style, but now I guess I do.) It is modern in colors and images and it doesn’t always use the first thought of animal to showcase that letter. And I’m hoping that by now, since it is day 211 after all, you’ve started to realize that I usually travel the road less taken…where I like things unique.
I thought I would share with you some shots of the inside of the book to show you what I’m talking about
E is for Elephant; F is for Fish; G is for Giraffe; H is for Humming Bird
I is for Iguana; J is for Jellyfish; K is for Koala; L is for Ladybug
Q is for Quail; R is for Rabbit; S is for Squirrel; T is for Turtle
And of course I looked to see what other books and such Charley Harper has done and now I must figure out how to purchase all of these:

Teva and I love reading books together. Teva has always been pretty content to sit and read and she loves turning every page (sometimes before I’m done reading it!). Her (and mine too) favorite is BEAR SNORES ON!
