About Me
I grew up in South Florida, and went to college at NYU to study Journalism. And then 9/11 happened (a life changing moment since I lived 5 blocks away and saw the planes and the people from the 28th floor of my dorm building) and then my grandfather passed away (a life changing moment since he was the only father figure I had ever known). Being a NYC journalist didn’t have that appeal to me anymore. Those life changing moments can really make you reevaluate your life. So I decided to move clear across the country to Seattle…without a job, a place of my own to stay, and a dwindling savings account. After about a year of living in Seattle (crappy job established, studio apartment living) I met my now husband. We moved in together and within about 4.5 years, I started and finished grad school to become an English teacher, we bought a house, and we got married (we figured why not get married since we were buying a house…so off to the courthouse we went). And about 1 year after we were married, we conceived our little peanut (aka-Abigail). Abigail was born on 11.4.09, just 1 day before my estimated due date. That is truly when my life changed.
We spent the first 10 days of her life in the hospital while trying to figure out what was causing her partial vocal cord paralysis…and this was shot after we had to put an itty bitty hospital gown on her as she was awaiting a procedure where she would be knocked out to get a look at her vocal cords and throat and such. It was a scary moment, but once we got the results that there was nothing wrong with her anatomy and she would heal on her own, I was able to look at these pictures and really treasure the bonding we were doing as mommy and daughter.
And now I write this blog to document what being a first time mommy is all about, all while maneuvering through the thoughts of being 30. Here we go….
